1000 character challenge and the Tuesday leap

Congratulations to Sergey Yurgenson for his winning entry Cat54. Both this entry and second place’s Last Remains …. by David Jones credit Remains of the Day by the cyclist as their common ancestor.

In a couple of short hours our final challenge begins - our Tuesday Leap. The goal of this challenge is to submit the entry that makes the biggest single improvement in score. This challenge starts at tonight midnight EDT and will run through Tuesday midnight.

Good luck to everyone!

Note: We mistakenly announced David Jones as the winner before all the entries were processed. We regret our error.

    According to the stats page, SY had 3 entries that were submitted on time and beat Last Remains… Cat54 looks like it was the best.

Wrap code fragments inside <pre> tags, like this:

<pre class="code">
a = magic(3);
sum(a)
</pre>

If you have a "<" character in your code, either follow it with a space or replace it with "&lt;" (including the semicolon).
