Using the clipboard from a GUI

Many of you have surely noticed that this blog took a sharp turn towards video content since I moved to the Advanced Support Group at the MathWorks in May. With all these videos, I have had to get organized. Most of that organization came by way of MATLAB scripts and GUIs.

One of the utilities I wrote is a database viewer. I wanted to be able to quickly copy a field to paste it into different forms. I decided to save myself a few seconds each time I did this by making a button that says “Copy” and this button will copy everything out of the edit box and put it in the clipboard.

Wrap code fragments inside <pre> tags, like this:

<pre class="code">
a = magic(3);
sum(a)
</pre>

If you have a "<" character in your code, either follow it with a space or replace it with "&lt;" (including the semicolon).
