News from Embedded World 2010

In case you haven't been to a MathWorks conference or trade show recently, here is a look at what you might find at the MathWorks booth. In the following video, featured on Embedded-News.tv, my colleague Joachim Schlosser presents applications where Model-Based Design enables innovation while keeping development risk, time and cost low. Check out those cool demos!

Update: The quadrocopter demo is a collaboration between the Institute of Flight System Dynamics of the Technical University of Munich and Ascending Technologies.

Academic Virtual Conference

The MathWorks Academic Virtual Conference is May 11, 2010. The conference will bring together a collection of speakers on topics related to education and integrating technology in the classroom.

MathWorks Academic Virtual Conference

The motto at my alma mater, WPI, is Lehr und Kunst, German for Theory and Practice. That is what this conference is all about, how do you bridge the gap between theory and practice? How do educators prepare the next generation of engineers and scientists for the challenges ahead?

I hope to attend the following two sessions presented by my colleagues:
Tzuliang Loh, "Using Simulink in the Classroom to Enhance Engineering Education"
Shyam Yadati, "Discovering FPGA Advantages with MATLAB and Simulink"

Will you be there?

Now it’s you turn:

Were you at Embedded World 2010? Will you go to the Academic Virtual Conference? Leave a comment here and share your conference experiences.

    hi all
    sorry i don’t know to whom i must send my demand below, can anyone help .

    my inquiry is as follows:

    in matlab there are many toolboxes for the Artificial Intelligence(AI) branch like (neural network toolbox, fuzzy logic toolbox, genetic algorithm toolbox) but there are two types of AI not covered by you i mean no toolboxes for them , these two types are the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm and the Ant Colony(AC) algorithm .

    these PSO and Ac are very important in the optimization research and they are very famous and useful in this domain of search .

    i ask you to work on these two algorithms to make toolboxes for them like the genetic algorithm and fuzzy logic and others, i have wrote this inquiry to mathworks from few past years ,i have promise from mathworks specially for PSO to make a toolbox for it but nothing is done till now

    many researchers and PH.D students need these two algorithms in their researches and thesis.

    note :PSO have been invented or introduced by Eberhart and Kennedy since 1995.

    thank you to your cooperation and help

    i hope to hear and see the PSO and AC toolboxes in any new version of matlab program

    best regards

    Hi Shawkat – can you expand your comments on why PSO/AC are needed? Specifically, what problem classes do PSO/AC solve that are not covered by genetic algorithm (GA) or pattern search(PS) (or a customized version of GA/PS). For example, our Genetic Algorithm can easily be customized to mimic a PSO approach (see the webinar: Global Optimization with MATLAB Products that shows an example). Do PSO/AC outperform GA/PS for a broad class of problems (when you take into account the customization/options for GA/PS)?

    I am a student ,and from China.I am a freshman in learning Matlab, so i hope someone can help me. Yeah,i am searching for a model of DSSS(Direct Sequence) made in Simulink. Thanks.

    Shawkat,

    When discussing this at a MathWorks seminar, the sentiment was that the user community has already solved this problem. Please type “pso toolbox” in the search box at mathworks.com or click http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/28291-particle-swarm-optimization-research-toolbox

    Thanks for the support specially in AI. Could you please do brief that in GENETIC ALGORITHMS there is an architecture known as ISLAND. Could it be solved with the GA toolbox given with MATLAB or should we use some 3rd Party toolbox like GEATxb. Also please do let me know how you can create a chromosome for a specific solution.
    Example : I have multiple boxes square, triangle and rectangle. I want to know about their dimensions and if user will show any box it will classify as rectangle, square or triangle.
    I would be thankful, if you help me in this case.
    Regards

Wrap code fragments inside <pre> tags, like this:

<pre class="code">
a = magic(3);
sum(a)
</pre>

If you have a "<" character in your code, either follow it with a space or replace it with "&lt;" (including the semicolon).
