I always thought that plateau processing could not be handled by the &quot;standard&quot; image processing techniques available. Now I came across some work done by Pierre Soille, who address exactly the problem of plateau processing using geodetic distance transforms. Geodetic distance transforms are extremely interesting and I already made an enhancement request to include it as add-on to the morphological reconstruction library of the IPT. Besides plateau processing, geodetic distance transforms are useful for various other applications like
- Interpolation in images
- minimal path detection in images
- morphological image segmentation
- simplified modelling of physical processes in discrete heterogeneous media such as fluid penetration in porous media

It would be nice, if you could agitate for including such functionality in future versions of the IPT.
