How long is the coast of Britain?

I heard this morning that Benoît B. Mandelbrot died over the weekend. Dr. Mandelbrot developed the theory of fractal geometry. Here's a picture of the set that bears his name:

    My favorite cite “Clouds are not spheres, mountains are not cones, coastlines are not circles, and bark is not smooth, nor does lightning travel in a straight line” (Mandelbrot, 1983).
