In his article, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/03\/20\/automobiles\/coronavirus-doomsurfing.html?searchResultPosition=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How to Stop Coronavirus \u2018Doomsurfing\u2019<\/a>,\u201d he offered tips on how to make the internet a less scary space.<\/p>\n<p>I chose one of his tips: actively using social media makes us feel better than consuming it passively. I am inviting you to actively share your MATLAB superpower.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what I mean: How does your work make the world better?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m borrowing this idea from Battelle. Of all the \u201ctech-for-good\u201d stories I\u2019ve shared, this one is still my favorite. Sorry, you won\u2019t be able to learn what Fido is thinking while you\u2019re working from home. Although, I\u2019m pretty sure my canine companions are really confused about our sudden omnipresence in their lives.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Superpower: Reading a book through its cover<\/h2>\n<p>Yes, with this superpower from MIT\u2019s Camera Culture Group, you\u2019ll be able to read our textbooks during your remote schooling without ever opening them. \u00a0Here\u2019s the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.mathworks.com\/headlines\/2016\/09\/22\/forget-x-ray-vision-with-t-rays-you-can-read-a-book-through-its-cover\/?s_tid=srchtitle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">original blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 417px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/web.media.mit.edu\/~barmak\/images\/Barmak%20closed%20book%20THz.jpg\" width=\"407\" height=\"277\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The stack of paper is raster-scanned with THz pulses in reflection geometry. Image credit: MIT Media Lab.<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Superpower: Helping an amputee drummer return to drumming<\/h2>\n<p>A team of researchers from Georgia Tech created a robotic prosthetic that enabled a drummer to return to drumming after losing his arm in an industrial accident.\u00a0 Their superpower? Not only giving Mr. Barnes the ability to drum again but also to drum faster than humanly possible.\u00a0\u00a0The prosthetic has motors that power two drumsticks, each capable of drumming at speeds up to 20 beats per second.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.mathworks.com\/headlines\/2018\/04\/17\/with-one-hand-and-three-drumsticks-cyborg-drummer-wants-to-take-his-music-on-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">original post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>It&#8217;s your turn to share your superpower!<\/h2>\n<p>Please leave me a comment about your project.
