Yes, it\u2019s a \u201cthing.\u201d So, for today, you can call me Cliff.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cliff_Clavin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cliff Clavin<\/a> was the character in the television show <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cheers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cheers, <\/a>who seemed to know a fact or two about anything and everything! He came out with great trivia that wasn&#8217;t always accurate, such as when he explained what the acronym DNA stands for.<\/p>\n<p>Now, 10 months into writing the Behind the Headlines blog, I also have the (not-so-endearing) ability to spout factoids on a wide range of topics. These factoids come from a variety of sources, all tied to technology. They are true facts, however, not Clavinesque misinformation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>For example, did you know that the average apple in a US grocery store was picked 11 months ago? That factoid is courtesy of a TED Talk on CityFARM by Caleb Harper from MIT.<\/li>\n<li>How about the fact that the amount of hydrogen (tritium isotope) in a laptop battery and the amount of hydrogen (deuterium isotope) found in 20 gallons of water would be enough fuel to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.mathworks.com\/headlines\/2016\/05\/11\/power-your-house-for-nine-years-with-only-20-gallons-of-water-and-a-laptop-battery\/?s_tid=srchtitle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">power an average household for 9 years<\/a>. Thank you, fusion!<\/li>\n<li>Did you know <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Albert_Einstein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Einstein\u2019s birthday <\/a>was March 14<sup>th<\/sup>\u2026 as in Pi Day? 3.14&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"thequestions\">Now for some MATLAB-based trivia from the Behind the Headlines blog:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>How many NFL concussions were reported in 2015?<\/li>\n<li>In what year did Rudolf K\u00e1lm\u00e1n first describe the Kalman filter in technical papers?<\/li>\n<li>How many people are killed by mosquitoes annually?<\/li>\n<li>In addition to Pikachu, how many creatures are there in Pokemon Go?<\/li>\n<li>In 2016, Advanced LIGO proved gravitational waves exist.
