Thanks.

APNG support was only added to Chromium, on which JxBrowser is based, in 3/2017 ( http://anzwix.com/a/Chromium/Add%20Support%20For%20Animated%20PNG ).

So until such time as Matlab will incorporate a more recent JxBrowser version, we cannot expect to see APNG animations in the built-in browser. Numerous JxBrowser versions were released since 2015 – it’s now at version 6.22 and going strong ( https://jxbrowser.support.teamdev.com/support/discussions/forums/9000110576 ); Chromium itself is already at version 72.

APNG is really just a small incentive – countless other improvements in Chromium and JxBrowser were incorporated since 2015. Integration of a newer JxBrowser version in Matlab R2019b (I’m assuming that 19a is a lost cause so late) would be very welcome.

Currently I built a function which writes PNG’s to hard drive and then (Within the function) utilizes APNG Assembler to build the APNG file.

By the way IMGUR supports APNG hence the file is really a great way to share short video clips with others.

I often use GIF to show animated modeshapes in PowerPoint and, while I usually end up with decent-looking results, it takes quite a large file size to get there. I wouldn’t be surprised if APNG could offer some improvement.

Unfortunately, the current version of PPT doesn’t support APNG. There is a user enhancement request to add this feature here so maybe sometime in the future? (I won’t hold my breath).
