{"id":1219,"date":"2014-10-23T08:07:58","date_gmt":"2014-10-23T13:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.mathworks.com\/steve\/?p=1219"},"modified":"2014-10-23T08:07:58","modified_gmt":"2014-10-23T13:07:58","slug":"blogs-and-mathworks-traditions-membranes-and-cookies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.mathworks.com\/steve\/2014\/10\/23\/blogs-and-mathworks-traditions-membranes-and-cookies\/","title":{"rendered":"Blogs and MathWorks traditions: membranes and cookies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\r\nI was interested and amused to see two MATLAB Central blog postings today that both highlighted MathWorks traditions, but in very different ways.\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\nThe first one I saw was Cleve's <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.mathworks.com\/cleve\/2014\/10\/22\/mathworks-logo-part-two-finite-differences\/\">follow-up post<\/a> on the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the L-shaped membrane, the basis of the MathWorks logo.\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\nThe last image from Cleve's post is a lovely contour plot of one of the eigenfunctions of the shape, rendered using the new parula colormap I've been discussing this month.\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.mathworks.com\/steve\/files\/logo_diffs_05.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"419\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.mathworks.com\/steve\/files\/logo_diffs_05.png\" alt=\"logo_diffs_05\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1222\" \/><\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\nThe second was the hilariously over-the-top high-tech Friday afternoon cookie detector created by Tom Lowell and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.mathworks.com\/loren\/2014\/10\/23\/using-matlab-to-detect-cookies\/\" title=\"Loren's blog\">posted on Loren's blog<\/a>.
