I am not sure of the extent of the use of MATLAB\/Simulink on this particular project, but I know that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mathworks.com\/company\/newsletters\/articles\/bringing-spirit-and-opportunity-to-mars.html\">JPL is a &#8220;major user&#8221; of MATLAB<\/a>.  I got to see the rover testing lab before the last two made their successful trip.  I like to think that some engineer at JPL watched this blog and used something they learned to get the rover to Mars.
