Today, this collaboration goes a step further with a fully funded PhD studentship in collaboration between MathWorks and HiGHS.
"HiGHS, in association with the Optimization and Operational Research Group of the University of Edinburgh’s School of Mathematics, is pleased to invite applications for a four-year PhD studentship, funded by MathWorks, starting in September 2025. The student will work on large scale quadratic programming (QP), with the aim of extending the provision for solving QPs in HiGHS. This position is not suitable for someone aiming for an academic career, but will give an excellent opportunity to develop and showcase skills that are in great demand from the optimization software industry. Applicants must have a strong background in mathematical optimization, and excellent programming skills.
The studentship will cover tuition fees and a tax-free stipend of at least £20k per annum, and is open to UK and non-UK nationals. Anyone interested in applying is asked to contact Julian Hall (jajhall@ed.ac.uk)."
