Today we’re joined by Aimee Everest who is a part of the College Recruiting team at our UK office.. Over to you, Aimee…
As we say farewell to our Summer 2024 Interns, andbegin preparing for the next hiring cycle for 2025 (yes, that is correct, there really is no break for us Early Careers Recruiters!!), it had me reflecting on the jam-packed spring and summer we have had for our interns worldwide.
At MathWorks, it is important for us that our Interns get to experience what life really is like as a MathWorker, so they can become fully immersed in our culture during their time spent with us. As well as the “fun stuff”, we ensure our interns are working on “real-life features” in their projects, and on something tangible. Many of our interns go on to see the features they worked on during the internship in one of the future software release cycles. In fact, I recently had one of our current graduates (who had also previously interned with us) say that was the “coolest thing about it, downloading the prerelease on my university account and seeing the feature I had worked on in action” when he was back on-campus for his final year.
UK Interns
Our 2024 intern season kicked off in the Spring with interns joining our US and India offices, and then peaked in the Summer with our UK interns also joining the fun; and then the hard work began for those running the Programme. Kudos to all of the Managers and EDGers that supported us throughout! Across the three countries, a range of events were planned, from DEI panels to Career Development ‘Ask Me Anything’ sessions, to Quizzes and Scavenger Hunts, getting involved with our Social Mission volunteering activities, as well as a super fun Learn to Row Team Building Session in the UK and Duck Boat Tour of Boston. Meanwhile, over in India, interns were also taking part in various challenges, games, and competitions including Mood Boards and Paper Planes to name a couple.
US Interns in Boston
“A stand-out highlight for me was the Egg-Drop Challenge, it was great to see the interns using their engineering skills in a fun and engaging way.” – Kerri Carr, US College Recruiting.

The Interns were also able to get involved in the various Affinity Group events that were taking place over the summer. We pride ourselves on ensuring a culture of equity and inclusion, and that of course extends to our Interns. Affinity Groups at MathWorks include BEAM (Black Excellence at MathWorks), Neurodiversity, Somos (Latinx & Hispanic), Women at MathWorks, and PRIDE.
So, as we look to our 2025 hiring season, if you are interested in a career in software development, now is the time to apply. Especially if you would like to join us for what is looking set to be another fun-filled summer next year!
