I often use lots of subplots to pack a bunch of information into a single figure. This is great for a high level view, but each individual axes can be too small to see in much detail. My solution has always been to enable plot editing, copy the axes, and paste it into a new figure. Not the most elegant approach, but it worked.
Now I've got a much better solution -
ALLOWAXESTOGROW by Matthew Caywood. Once enabled, clicking on a subplot temporarily enlarges the plot to fill the entire figure. One more click returns things back to normal.
A few small notes: 1) It only works when you click on an axes (as opposed to lines, or other plot elements) 2) It likely will error if your axes are plotted on top of panels.
