Nancy – a MATLAB humanoid

As Application Engineers, Doug and I have met literally thousands of MATLAB users. We aren’t ones to stereotype, but we’ve noticed a slight trend towards our audiences being predominantly (about 98%) male. One place to find a woman associated with MATLAB is on the File Exchange, though. Walterio Mayol-Cuevas has programmed Nancy (a standard humanoid of the H-Anim working group) into MATLAB.

Walterio’s Articulated Humanoid Body submission gives you the ability to visualize and analyze Nancy in MATLAB. This is actually quite powerful, as it enables MATLAB users to do what they previously could do only in XML, VRML, and HTML. It’s also a great example of how to use patches for displaying 3-Dimensional objects in MATLAB.
