BankfullMapper: Time-dependent monitoring of river geometry
Mike’s Pick this week is BankfullMapper by Michele Delchiaro.
BankfullMapper was nominated as Pick of the Week by Kostas Leptokaropoulos. Kostas is the MathWorks Geoscience Academic Discipline Manager, supporting Geoscience users and is my go-to guy whenever I need to work with this discipline.
Introduced in July 2025 at Computers and Geosciences, BankfullMapper is is a brand-new addition to the Topotoolbox family. The toolbox offers the capability to perform time-dependent monitoring of river geometry. It enables users to estimate bankfull geometry and discharge using high-resolution terrain data. This is critical for assessing long-term channel evolution, sediment transport, and floodplain behavior, especially in light of increasingly dynamic flow regimes.
