Exploring data through a series of vizualizations 1

Posted by Doug Hull,

When we get unknown data, we do not always know where it will lead us. This video shows the series of visualizations that I went through to answer a question about my data. By showing the process, we can see there there are lots of reality checks on our data as we go. By the end we are confident with the results.

I think that going into overlaid eCDF plots avoids a number of problems including 1) it removes the impact of bin size on data representation, 2) it reduces the impact of centered noise becuase the sum is a filter, 3) the y-axis is quantiles, so you can clearly see modes along with quantiles. Once you know how to read them they can be very informative.
